Wolves are set to sign teenage defender Pedro Lima from Brazilian second-tier club Sport Recife in an £8.5m deal.

The 17-year-old will not be confirmed as a Wolves player until his 18th birthday on 1 July, but an agreement on a five-year contract with an option for an extra year has been reached.

The West Midlands club are set to sign the young defender from under the noses of Chelsea's partner club Strasbourg, who had thought they tied up a deal last week.

A Sport Recife statement read: "Sport Club do Recife announces that it has signed a binding agreement to transfer the economic and federative rights of Pedro Lima to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"The agreement is subject to customary conditions, including the athlete's approval of medical examinations conducted by the English club.

"President Yuri Romao and the football management committee will detail the operation in a statement when all acts related to the business have been completed."

Whenever Kevin Campbell came back to Goodison Park you could tell straight away just how popular he was. He was a talismanic figure – not just a great player and great striker but a great presence both on and off the field.

I remember the immediate impact he made to Everton when he joined initially on loan in 1999 – his goals helped to keep the Toffees up that year, and from that moment on his iconic status was assured.

That's before you even factor in his winner against Liverpool at Anfield, and the fact he was leading scorer three times, and how he would assume the captaincy too.

He will be fondly remembered at Everton and indeed by all his former clubs and the football world in general.

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier says he will "always be ready" to play, whether that is at left-back or right-back.

The 33-year-old is in Germany preparing for his fourth major tournament with England at Euro 2024.

While the majority of his career has been spent as a right-back, his versatility and strong competition for places there for the Three Lions has brought him also out to the left-hand side.

With questions over Luke Shaw's fitness and no other traditional left-back in the 26-man squad, Trippier may have to be deployed in that position once again.

"It doesn't matter [which position]. If I play, if I don't play, if I play right-back, left-back, I'll always be ready," he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"I like to bomb forward and put crosses in, but sometimes I need to adjust my game and maybe I'll be more defensive [at left back] and join in more. But for me it is just the same - the distances, checking your left shoulder instead of your right, the fine details.

"If it's left-back, no problem, I'll give my best. But if I'm not playing, also the type of character that I am is that I'm always supportive of my team because ultimately, if you're not playing, we all want the same goal."

"As I have said before, it is a privilege to wear the shirt [for England] whether I'm at left-back or right-back."

Former Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic has died at the age of 26.

Sarkic signed from Aston Villa in July 2020 and left to join Millwall last summer.

During his time at Molineux, he represented the under-21s as well as the first-team, making three senior appearances during the 2022-23 season.

He also made several appearances between the sticks in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs, said: "The news has come as a massive shock to all of us. It is unbelievably heartbreaking and everyone at Wolves is devastated to hear of Mati’s passing.

"He was a wonderful goalkeeper, but as a person – first and foremost – he was loved by everyone. Mati was such a popular guy around the club and always had a smile on his face. He worked hard, and he was so personable, so polite and friendly to every member of staff at Compton.

"For everybody who knew him really well, it is such sad news to hear and it is hard to accept that he is no longer with us."

Campbell's death, aged 54, was announced on Saturday morning after a short illness.

He spent three seasons at Forest between 1995 and 1998, scoring 35 goals in 97 appearances.

Former goalkeeper Mark Crossley, who played alongside Campbell, said: "Life can be so cruel at times.

"Absolutely devastated with news of my ex-Forest team-mate Kevin Campbell's passing. A true gentleman, a great player, a shining light of a dressing room, fun-loving guy. Thoughts are with all his family and friends. RIP mate."

The club added: "Our thoughts are with Kevin's friends and family during this difficult time."

Everton have paid tribute to Kevin Campbell, "one of the club's most popular and much-loved" players, who has passed away aged 54.

The former striker joined Everton on loan in March 1999, scoring nine times in their final eight Premier League games to help them avoid relegation.

He was rewarded with a permanent deal that summer, and stayed for more than five seasons.

Everton said: "Everyone at Everton is deeply saddened by the death of our former striker Kevin Campbell at the age of just 54.

"Not just a true Goodison Park hero and icon of the English game, but an incredible person as well - as anyone who ever met him will know. RIP, Super Kev."

Campbell was the club's first black captain in the top-flight and he became an enduringly popular figure for scoring the winner in a 1-0 Merseyside derby win at Anfield in September 1999. It was to be 22 years before the Toffees won there again, ensuring his permanent place in the affections of the blue half of Merseyside.

He is Everton’s fifth highest Premier League scorer with 45 goals, netting 51 times in 164 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith "there will be a lot of sad ex-team mates" following the death of Kevin Campbell aged 54.

Campbell was a boyhood Arsenal supporter and a product of the club's youth set-up after joining aged 15.

The striker went on to make his senior debut for the club in 1988, following loan spells with Leyton Orient and Leicester City.

He scored nine goals in 22 appearances for Arsenal during their title-winning 1990-91 campaign.

Campbell then helped the Gunners win the FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993, and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

His Arsenal career ended in 1995, when he moved to Nottingham Forest. In all he played 228 times for our first team, scoring 59 goals.

"To have the career that he did was just fantastic," said Smith on Sky Sports. "He was ambitious and driven because he wanted to do well.

"You see the photos with his big smile and that was his personality. He was warm hearted and popular with all the boys.

"He was a South London boy who made good and always appreciated it. He never took it for granted to be where he was. He carried his work ethic throughout his whole career.

"When you have played with him and shared a dressing room with him, then you would never forget him. There will be a lot of ex-team mates of his who will be very sad.

"It is just a tragic day."

Midfielder Adam Lallana says it feels "surreal" after rejoining Southampton on a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old, who left Brighton at the end of his contract last month, will go back to the Saints having last played for the side 10 years ago.

He began his career at the south coast club, joining the academy at the age of 12 and went on to make 265 first-team appearances, scoring 60 goals, before leaving to join Liverpool in 2014.

Lallana becomes Southampton's first signing of the summer transfer window and the club will be hoping to use his Premier League experience having secured their promotion back to the top flight from the Championship.

"It does feel surreal, but it's an opportunity I'm extremely grateful for and I'm looking forward to," the England international said.

"When I started speaking to Russell [Martin] and understood there was a little bit of interest, something straight away felt right in my head and in my heart.

"I'm extremely happy to come back to where it all started. Although it sounds like a bit of a fairytale, in my head there's still a job to do and I'm really confident I've still got a lot to give to this football club."

Saints boss Martin: "I'm delighted that we could bring Adam back home to where it all began for him. Adam has the DNA of this club running through him and brings vital experience as we prepare for the Premier League.

"We're going to need everyone to play a part again this coming season and Adam helps us create real depth and know-how in midfield."

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has been "surprised" by the leadership of the young players in the England squad.

Euro 2024 will be the right-back's fourth major tournament with his national side, having been called up for the past two Wold Cups in 2018 and 2022, as well as the last European Championship in 2021.

At 33, he is one of the more experienced players in a young Three Lions squad that has travelled to Germany.

"I've been there for a long time now, so I came through the transition from when Harty [Joe Hart] was here, Gaz Cahill, the leaders of the group," Trippier told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"You don't have to be my age to be a leader. You can be 18, 19, 20, and lead in different ways. It doesn't have to just be the older players.

"But we understand that there's so many new faces here, so it's our responsibility - myself and the older players - to make all the younger players feel at ease."

Of Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the tournament, 12 players are at a major tournament for the first time, but Trippier has been impressed by the younger members.

"People forget how young Declan [Rice] is, for example. He's very vocal," he added.

"You have Bukayo [Saka], who is so young and still is very vocal. Even Cole [Palmer] - people might not see it, but all the young players, they're vocal and on the training pitch, which is really good to see.

"A lot of them have surprised me. I'm very happy for them and they have settled in very quickly."

Jordan Pickford feels his experiences battling relegation with Everton can help England at Euro 2024.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is set to be number one for his nation once again when they kick off their tournament against Serbia on Sunday.

Pickford has been a key player for his club during recent struggles that have seen the Toffees battling to avoid relegation in the past three Premier League seasons.

"There's a lot of positives and negatives at Everton. You learn from those experiences," he said.

"You've got lads here like Jude Bellingham, who has just won the Champions League. In the 2022-23 season, we [Everton] were fighting for our lives to stay in the Premier League.

"All of those experiences bed in together [in order] to be successful in a tournament, [with] the highs and lows throughout. Those rises - that's where you have got to be mentally strong. That's something I am. My mentality, I think, is key."

Leicester City look to be nearing the end of their hunt for a new manager after reportedly whittling down their targets to Steve Cooper, Graham Potter and Carlos Corberan.

Former Foxes goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell has been giving his thoughts on the final three on the When You're Smiling podcast: "All three of them are top coaches," Stowell said. "They all have their positives.

"Steve Cooper worked on a budget down the road [at the City Ground]. What you have got to do is take out the fact that he worked for Nottingham Forest. For any Leicester fans out there, it should be Steve Cooper 'the coach'.

"He did an amazing job keeping Forest in the Premier League, and that might be the case with Leicester City this season with the [impending] points deduction. He would be working with a squad that is limited in terms of financial restraints.

"What Graham Potter achieved at Brighton [was brilliant], but going to Chelsea is a poisoned chalice - who doesn't get sacked at Chelsea? So you can take that out of the equation.

"What Carlos Corberan has done under Marco Bielsa at Leeds United, and Huddersfield and Olympiakos [is also brilliant].

"These are top-grade managers. They will have gone to the training ground at Seagrave and seen the facilities. The squad is still good enough. The owner, Top [Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha], is an amazing owner to work for.

"If those three want the job, it's a luxury for Leicester City."
