The UT Austin academic calendar 2023-2024 contains semester schedules, registration dates, holiday schedules, add/drop dates, graduation dates, other important, and deadlines.

The University of Texas at Austin is on a semester system made of Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Most courses meet three hours a week in the fall and spring semesters and have a value of three semester hours. In a six-week summer term, courses meet seven and a half hours a week for three semester hours of credit.

To be considered a full-time student at the University of Texas at Austin, you must enrol in at least 12 hours.

If you begin a semester as a full-time student but, during the semester, you drop a course and you go below the full-time threshold, that change will impact your full-time status.

UT Austin Undergraduates are classified as a freshman (0-29 hours of credit), sophom*ores (30-59 hours of credit), juniors (60-89 hours of credit), or seniors (more than 89 hours of credit) based on the number of semester credit hours passed and transferred, regardless of the hours’ applicability toward a degree.

UT Austin academic calendar fall 2023

At the University of Texas at Austin, the Fall Semester has two designated subterms: the “Fall Term” (formerly known as the “Fall Long Semester”) is the primary subterm for Fall Semester classes and the “Winter Term” which is an optional period to offer education abroad courses, internships, etc.

  1. Tuition bills for the fall semester will be distributed to students electronically on July 25, 2023.
  2. The tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. CST on August 10, 2023, for undergraduate students who registered for the fall semester by Friday, July 21.
  3. Orientation for new international students is scheduled for August 11, 2023.
  4. Fall registration for new undergraduate and all graduate students who still need to register will occur on August 16, 2023 (check your registration information sheet for access times).
  5. Fall registration for all students will be held from August 17 to 20, 2023.
  6. UT Austin University residence halls will open on August 18, 2023, for move-in day 2023.
  7. August 18, 2023, is a graduate student’s last day to register in absentia.
  8. UT Austin Fall 2023 classes start on August 21, 2023. It is the first day of classes for the fall semester.
  9. Fall registration for all students will continue from August 21 to 24, 2023.
  10. August 24, 2023, is the 4th class day and the last day to add a class without permission, according to UT Austin academic calendar.
  11. For graduate and law students, the tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. CST on August 24, 2023.
  12. Fall registration for all students (requiring either department and dean’s approval) will occur from August 25 to September 6, 2023.
  13. September 4, 2023, is the Labor Day holiday, and no classes will be held.
  14. September 6, 2023, is the 12th class day and the last day to add a class (approval required) and to drop a class without permission.
  15. The tuition payment deadline is 5:00 p.m. CST on September 6, 2023, for anyone registered after July 21.
  16. Payment for added classes (“Add Bill”) is due by 11:59 p.m. on September 6, 2023. Any owed balance after this will be automatically placed on an instalment plan.
  17. October 13, 2023, is the payment deadline for remaining tuition balances, due by 11:59 p.m. CST.
  18. October 23, 2023, is the last day for an undergraduate to Q-drop a class, withdraw, or change a class to pass/fail, and it’s the last day to apply for an undergraduate degree.
  19. Spring 2024 registration will occur from October 30 to November 10, 2023.
  20. Spring 2024 tuition bills will be distributed to students on November 14, 2023.
  21. November 17, 2023, is the last day a doctoral candidate may hold a dissertation defence for the Fall 2023 semester, and it’s also the last day to apply for a graduate degree.
  22. On November 20, 2023, the last day a graduate student may change registration in a class to or from the credit/no credit basis.
  23. UT Austin Fall break / Thanksgiving 2023 will be observed from November 20 to November 25, 2023, and no classes will be held.
  24. December 1, 2023, is the last day to submit a master’s report, recital, thesis, doctoral dissertation, or treatise to the graduate dean.
  25. The last fall semester class day is December 4, 2023.
  26. December 4, 2023, it’s the last day an undergraduate may, with the required approvals, request a non-academic Q-drop, register in absentia, and the last day a graduate student may, with the required approvals, drop a class or withdraw from the university.
  27. Study days are scheduled for December 5 to 6, 2023.
  28. Final exams will be held from December 7 to 9 & 11, 2023.
  29. University residence halls will close from December 12, 2023.
  30. The official graduation date (No public exercises) is December 16, 2023.
