When Jake Paul lost to Tommy Fury in February, many wondered what would be next for “The Problem Child.” Would he fight KSI or disappear from boxing altogether? Neither will happen, as Paul is moving on to face one of the toughest combat sports stars of all time.
After years of teasing a bout between the two, Paul will fight former UFC star Nate Diaz on August 5. The American Airlines Center in Dallas will host the 185-pound ten-round contest.
It will be a PPV bout exclusively distributed by DAZN and ESPN+.
Paul is 6-1 in the boxing ring, having beaten AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren, and Tyron Woodley (twice). In October, "The Problem Child" beat MMA legend Anderson Silva via unanimous decision.After multiple attempts to face Fury, the two clashed in Saudi Arabia. Paul knocked him down in the final round, but Fury claimed a split decision victory.

"My last fight didn’t end the way I wanted, but the result was the best thing that could have happened to my professional boxing aspirations," said Paul. "Now, the world thinks I am vulnerable when all I am is more focused than ever. My team wanted me to take an easy fight like KSI next, but that’s not how I am built. Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bad-a-- fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.
“People tell me Nate has been training with Andre Ward for years. That he has insane stamina. That he refuses to back down. Good for f------ Nate. I haven’t forgotten about the slap backstage in Arizona, and on August 5, a Problem Child is going to piece up and knock out the Stockton G.”
Diaz made his MMA debut in 2004 and competed for WEC and Strikeforce. Joining the UFC in 2007, he won The Ultimate Fighter 5 lightweight tournament by beating Manvel Gamburyan.
Diaz went 16-11 in the UFC in 27 contests. He faced the best of the best, competing in wars against Clay Guida, Marcus Davis, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller, and Michael Johnson. In 2016, Diaz became a household name thanks to his rivalry with Conor McGregor, going 1-1 against him in 2016. Diaz didn't return to action until 2019, when he beat Anthony Pettis before losing to Jorge Masvidal for the BMF Title.

Fighting again in 2021, he lost to Leon Edwards. Diaz was supposed to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279, but the latter missed weight, so Diaz faced and beat Tony Ferguson instead. That was the last fight under his UFC deal.
“Besides Canelo, he’s the biggest thang in boxing. I’m here to conquer that. I’m the king of combat sports, and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts,” said Diaz. “I f----- up Conor for acting out, and now here I am again, like a super hero of the real fight game, the king of the real fight game.”
