SARASOTA, Fla. - U.S. Rep Greg Steube was standing 25 feet above the ground on a ladder when he fell, but he does not have life-threatening injuries, according to a statement on his official Twitter account.
A delivery driver happened to see the fall and called 911 for help.
The congressman was cutting tree limbs when he fell at his Sarasota property. He spent the night in the ICU and has "several serious injuries."
Darrell Woodie saw the fall. He was working as a delivery driver when it happened. Woodie also happens to be a field representative for Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL).
On the 911 call, Woodie can be heard telling Steube that he intended to stop over and congratulate him on his recent election victory, but then he saw Steube fall.
"He's bruised up," Woodie tells the 911 dispatcher. "A branch hit the ladder and took him out."
At times, Steube can be heard in the background, asking Woodie what happened. Woodie told the dispatcher Steube seemed "dazed."
But the congressman was able to help Woodie find his phone and unlock a gate for emergency personnel, who arrived within about 10 minutes.
After being taken to the hospital, Steube was said to be recovering and "in good spirits."

"He is making progress and in good spirits," the tweet read in part. "We are thankful to the individual who witnessed the fall and immediately called 911, as well as Sarasota County’s Emergency Services for their quick response and transportation."
Congressman Steube currently serves in Florida's 17th district, which covers Sarasota County. Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and just began his third term.
Personal life. Steube and his wife, Jennifer, have one son. On January 18, 2023, Steube fell approximately 25 feet (7.6 m) off a ladder while cutting tree limbs at his home in Sarasota, Florida.
