What's to Love about Cinnamon Bananas

  • SUPER TASTY - Pan-frying brings out the natural sweetness of bananas and turns them golden with a soft, gooey texture.
  • EXPOSURE - Allows young children to see different ways bananas can be prepared and served.
  • NUTRITIOUS - As far as desserts go cinnamon bananas are pretty nutritious.
  • VERSATILE - Serve them as a dessert with a scoop of ice cream, add to plain yogurt, or use as a porridge topping.
  • FAMILY FRIENDLY - Not just for kids, the whole family won't be able to resist these.

Ingredients (with alternative suggestions)

You only need 3 simple ingredients to make pan fried cinnamon bananas

  • Ripe but firm bananas– Underripe bananas are not recommended but you don't want to use bananas that are overly ripe either. Look to use bananas with a few brown spots that are slightly soft, but not mushy.
  • Coconut Oil / Butter– both work great, the choice is yours!
  • Ground cinnamon

Bananas are plenty sweet as they are but if you are want a more indulgent dessert then you can add 1tbsp of honey (not for under 1s) to the oil, just before adding the banana slices.

Process Shots and Cooking Tips

  1. Peel and slice the banana into 1.5cm (½ inch) rounds.
  2. Heat coconut oil (or butter), over medium heat, in a nonstick or well-seasoned cast-iron skillet. Once melted stir in the cinnamon. Using a non-stick / well-seasoned cast-iron skillet will reduce the amount of fat you need to use. Depending on the skillet you use, you may find that you need to add more coconut oil/butter.
  3. Add the banana slices to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes. Pay attention to the temperature, you want them to caramelise but not burn. You may need to adjust the temperature up and down as they cook.
  4. Gently flip and cook on the other side for a further 3-4 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

Cinnamon bananas are a delicious dessert (served with ice cream) but they can be used in a number of ways, why not try topping/ serving with...

  • yoghurt
  • oatmeal
  • pancakes
  • waffles

Storage Instructions

Best eaten straight away.

I’m on a low calorie strict diet, I don’t understand how we are coming up with the calories for this recipe. One banana is 105 calories. Then add butter and cinnamon….
