Overview
Somehow, if you're towing needs aren't met with a Ford F-150 or F-250, the American automaker sells the even larger and more capable F-350. And when we say capable, we mean it, as the ginormous pickup is rated to tow up to 21,500 pounds. Maximum gooseneck towing is rated at an incredible 32,000 pounds. Weighing in at just under 6,000 pounds for the lightest model, the F-350 is a true heavyweight in the segment. While it's built for work, the 2019 Ford F-350 is also happy wearing a hat as an upscale luxury vehicle.
What's New for 2019
For the 2019 model year, the F-350 benefits from minor changes. A B&O stereo system replaces the old premium Sony unit. Lastly, there’s a new Lariat Sport package that brings things like black exterior trim, a spray-in bed liner, and 20-inch wheels.
Choosing Your Ford F-350
Like a lot of Ford's other pickup trucks, there are numerous variations to choose from for the F-350. The pickup can go from a barebones work truck to a full-on luxury machine. The base engine for the F-350 is a 6.2-liter V8 that makes 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The next step up is a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 that's rated to generate 450 hp and 935 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the F-350 has a maximum conventional towing capacity of 21,000 pounds. Gooseneck towing is rated at 32,000 pounds. The pickup has a maximum payload capacity of 7,630 pounds.
While the 6.7-liter diesel engine is the better choice for being able to tow extremely large cargo, the 6.2-liter V8 motor gives consumers the ability to run on compressed natural gas and propane when equipped with the Alternative Fuel Capability package, which costs $315.
The F-350 is available in three body styles: Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab. The Regular Cab option only has two doors, the SuperCab has two full-size front doors and two half-sized ones in the back, while the Crew Cab body style has four full-size doors. There are two bed sizes for the F-350, as well. Regular Cabs come with an eight-foot bed. SuperCab and Crew Cab variants can be had with a 6.75-foot bed in addition to the eight-foot option.
CarsDirect Tip
Unless you want a heavy-duty pickup truck that rivals full-on luxury vehicles, the 2019 Ford F-350 XLT trim is reasonably priced and well equipped. The XLT Value Package brings a good amount of features for the money and makes the massive machine easier to live with. If you plan on doing any off-roading, the FX4 package is worth a look, while consumers in cold climates that do some plowing should look at the Snow Plow Prep Package. Before settling on a F-350, though, we recommend doing considering exactly what your needs are, as the much more affordable F-250 and even the F-150 should be capable enough for the majority of drivers.
